Reasons Why You Need Summer Tires
After having
moved with my family to Alaska and having invested in Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8
tires for the harsh Alaskan winters, I now needed to look into summer tires. Summers, even though they are here
pretty short, bring a very different climate and road conditions. The Alaskan
summer begins in June and lasts until August, the temperature varies from 40 to
100 degrees Fahrenheit. The summer is fairly dry but when it rains, it really
rains. So, for this varied summer weather I opted to invest in a good set of
summer tires.
The Nokian zLine summer tire masters varied summer weather and
with our Audi family car I wanted some well performing tires to explore the
Alaskan country side in the summer. What a joy our first journey was after
having changed our winter tires to
summer tires. Greate performance! The
summer tires are really responsive and maintain a perfect feel for the road. Even though it is our family car, I
do sometimes enjoy driving at high speeds and even at high speeds the tires respond
to steering and are quiet. The winter tires are designed for the winter
conditions and in summer time you need well perfoming summer tires that are
especially formulated for the summer conditions.
This is our
first summer in Alaska and the weather is quite different than I’m used to.
There is barely any humidity. So, it is fairly dry but when it rains, it pours.
The Nokian zLine tires have “Swoop grooves” that enable excellent wet grip to
avoid aquaplaning – a feature that is definitely needed in Alaska.
Even though
winter tires aren’t mandatory, I wanted
to make sure our family can drive safely and I mounted Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 winter
tires on our family car for the winter season. Now that summer is here, I changed
to summer tires. In Alaska there
really are only 2 seasons, winter and summer and that’s why I decided to invest
in good winter and summer tires instead of the all-season tires.
After all,
tires are the most important safety equipment on your car, so for my family’s
safety this investment was a no brainer. Possibly, if we lived in an area where
the winters weren’t so harsh and the seasonal variations were not clear, we
could have opted for an all season tire. Maybe when my job transfers me
elsewhere that will be the case.
