Studded Tires vs. Non-Studded Tires



Studded tires were the choice of tires for safe driving in winter among many people in the past. However, things have changed nowadays and most people tend to prefer non-studded tires for driving in winter weather. Also known studless tires, the non-studded tires have been found to outperform their studded counterparts in some winter conditions. This means that studded tires are not necessary for winter as they used to be back in the day. One of the things that winter does is increased road noise when driving on dry clear roads. When choosing tires for this season, you need to look for those that will not be too loud on the road. packed roads.

When it comes to driving in snow, non-studded tires tend to go hand in hand with the studded tires. The modern studless tires feature advanced tread designs that provide the same traction level in snow as the studs. One particular factor that improves the performance of these tires on snowy roads is the sipe design. They feature zig zag sipes that usually provide excellent grip by biting into snow just like the studs usually do. They are also made with advanced rubber compounds that assist in improving grip when you are driving on snow. 

The only place that studded tires outdo non-studded tires is driving on ice. Even though the modern studless tires have excellent features, they cannot beat the bite of metal studs when driving on hard packed snow or wet ice. The studded tires will be a perfect choice of tires for you if you normally drive on tightly packed snow or ice streets most often. The studless tires will only be perfect when the temperatures on the roads are 7 degrees Celsius and above.
